Buenas Noches
La Almunia del Valle, Monachil, Andalucía Tired of lookalike boutique hotels? There is no chance of pleather and wenge fatigue at this genuinely one?off hotel in the hills just outside Granada. Fresh flowers, a pool shaded by olive trees, sun-dappled terraces looking out across the Sierra Nevada natural park, bedrooms that veer towards the more homely side of chic and the distractions of Granada five miles away; if you could shrink-wrap the quintessential summer holiday, it would probably look like this.

a nice place to be
We stayed in La Almunia del Valle during the month of May in 2011. We had a nice stay in this hotel. Patricia en Maria are good hosts for their guests and very customer orientated. The breakfast is delicious, the rooms are modern decorated en the beds are good to sleep in. Patricia and Maria, thanks and all the best.

Being a country girl and being as it's so hot in Spain in August, I didn't want to stay in Granada itself but a little drive away in the slightly cooler and quieter hills. La Almunia del Valle fitted the bill perfectly.

So many good things have already been written about this hotel and I can only agree with all of them. Our room, a superior, on the first floor with it's own lovely terrace was just perfect. Beautifully furnished, immaculate and well stocked with free water, juice and many toiletries (forget bringing your own shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser - there is loads in the bathroom and really gorgeous).

Maria at the front desk was just amazingly helpful and full of the best advice. You cannot go wrong following her suggestions. In the end we ditched the guidebooks and just referred to her for help. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Thank you Maria.

The setting is stunning. A hearty breakfast, which included just the best pastries ever, plus loads of other goodies, on the terrace overlooking the mountains was a wonderful way to start the day. We combined sight seeing with a couple of hours each day under the shade of the Olive trees by the lovely swimming pool reading and swimming. So very relaxing and quiet.

Monachil itself is a fine old (small) town. You can easily walk down the lane in the evening for dinner but getting a taxi back up is advisable unless you don't mind a mile or so walking up a steep hill and are lazy like us! The restaurants in Monachil will organise one for you. We ate out at Manolo and loved it. Rustic, full of locals, open until very late and with good food. Two other nights we ate out in Granada. We got a taxi in and out, which cost 16 Euros one way and meant we could down a hearty amount of mojitos and cava and not worry about driving. On the remaining night we ate at the hotel. A lovely setting watching the sun go down and then sitting amongst the lovely tree lights. My husband likes the more rustic, basic fare and their food, whilst very lovely, was a bit more french/stylish in style.

The Sierra Nevada is right on your doorstep and worth investigating. We had a little wander but was really too hot for proper hiking. We'd like to come back again in Spring and see all the flowers and do some proper walking.

Really there is loads to do and see on your doorstep and this Hotel is just a joy to come back to after every trip out.

Came home refreshed and happy and wanting to go back again, just perfect.

A wonderful discovery

We went to La Almunia del Valle with high expectations, having read some good reviews. All our expectations were exceeded. Perched on the side of a stunningly beautiful valley, fringed by the mountains, this fabulous hotel is only about 8 km from Granada, and yet occupies a sublime and unspoilt location. Our room was cool, very stylishly decorated (great mosaic shower) and had its own terrace with wonderful views from the huge floor to ceiling window. The food is as good a reason as any to come here: breakfast consists of good bread and pastries, hams, fruit, delicious cheeses and homemade fig and apricot jams; the 5 course dinner uses the best, local ingredients, and together with the small but good choice of wine (not to mention the most generous G & Ts ever encountered!) made for some great evenings, as we watched the sunset and the moon appear on the horizon. This is a small, intimate hotel (only 11 rooms) with great charm and excellent, personal service. Maria and Christina made us very welcome and we were given good advice for trips in the area. Why would we ever go to a bland chain hotel again? The gardens are lovely and well cared for and the pool perfect for an afternonn dip. Not the easiest place to find first time, perhaps, but well worth the effort. Already missing Cris (the dog). We can\'t wait to come back!

3 noches

We stayed 3 wonderful nights at La Almunia whilst on our honeymoon and stayed in room 7 (superior double). From the moment we arrived, our lovely hosts made us feel very welcome - nothing would appear to be too much trouble. The views from every part of this small hotel are quite simply stunning and it would have been very easy not to have ventured far. However, with Granada an easy 15 minute drive away La Alhambra is a must, and truly worthy of a whole days visit. The drive from the village of Monachil to the hotel is not for the faint hearted but well worth the effort - be sure to follow the hotel's directions as we did and you won't go wrong. Our room had every home comfort from forgotten toothbrushes to cosy bathrobes and slippers. As someone who is very fussy about bed comfort; I slept blissfully and without complaint; which is rare. We dined here 2 evenings and thoroughly enjoyed every course of each 4 course set menu especially the Iberian pork fillet, in addition the little bar was able to provide us with any beverage that we cared to ask for. This is a chic, luxurious and stylish hotel set in the most idyllic setting, owned and run by Manuel and Patricia the nicest kindest and most attentive hosts you could ask for. We look forward to our return and will rely on our very happy memories to sustain us till then. Furthermore; we were very impressed with the service received from your company and will look to use you again - thank you. Kind regards, Mr & Mrs Kynaston
